Abebe Fola PhD

I am a Post-doctoral research associate at Brown University, Bailey Lab and working on "Population Genomics, Drug and Diagnostic Resistance of Malaria Parasites". I am an experienced malaria genomic epidemiologist with four years of PhD training at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, the University of Melbourne in Australia (2015-19), and two years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Purdue University, USA since 2019.

I have a strong passion combining genetics, genomics, and epidemiological information to better understand malaria transmission dynamics, emergency and spread of drug resistance to guide malaria elimination efforts. I also have a strong desire to develop robust and cost-effective genetic markers, data analysis and visualization tools to integrate the population genomic approach with malaria surveillance systems to analyze the data in a timely fashion and interpret the results without difficulties.

After work hours, you can find me at the kids’ playground with my daughter, watching and playing soccer, watching scientific movies, learning new cultures and different societal beliefs and reading books.
