Abebe Fola and Karamoko Niare had two papers officially published today.
Karamoko’s work titled An optimized GATK4 pipeline for Plasmodium falciparum whole genome sequencing variant calling and analysis improves upon previous variant calling to provide better training sets and improve precision and recall of variants — particularly indels. The work shows improved detection of drug resistance mutations and better population structure differentiation.
Abebe’s paper entitled Temporal and spatial analysis of Plasmodium falciparum genomics reveals patterns of parasite connectivity in a low-transmission district in Southern Province, Zambia examines population structure and clonal transmission across seasons in Zambia. This is collaborative work with the Southern African International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR)
